Our Story

Dutch-Way traces its roots back to 1972, when David Z. Martin opened a small store in Myerstown, Pennsylvania, selling milk and eggs from the family farm. In 1978, David G. Martin took over ownership and management, transforming the store from a farmer’s market into the supermarket operation we know today.

The Gap location opened in 1983, followed by Schaefferstown in 1991. In 1994, David Martin partnered with Cliff Snader, Jeff Snader, and Rich High to help operate the Gap store. That year, the business at the Gap location was renamed Dutchman’s Country Market under this new partnership. By 2001, Cliff, Jeff, and Rich assumed day-to-day management responsibilities and majority ownership for all three Dutch-Way locations and operated under the public name Dutch-Way Farm Market, while the corporate name remained Dutchman’s Country Market, Inc.  In 2018, Jason Bennett and Jordan Snader joined as minority shareholders, later becoming majority shareholders in 2025.  Josiah Snader also joined the ownership team in 2025.

Cliff Snader grew up on a farm in New Holland, PA, gaining early experience selling produce at a local farmer’s market and also working at another locally owned grocery store. He joined Dutch-Way in 1983, managing the Meat, Dairy, and Deli departments. Jeff Snader, also from New Holland, started as a grocery bagger at 16 and later trained as a meat cutter at another locally owned grocery store. He joined Dutch-Way full-time in 1986 as a meat cutter and soon became Meat Department Manager. Rich High, from Lancaster/Leola, gained experience at a local store bagging and stocking groceries and started at Dutch-Way in 1978 as a meat cutter, advancing to Meat Department Manager and eventually Store Manager of the Gap location in 1989.  Jason Bennett grew up in the Myerstown, PA area, working part-time for Dutch-Way starting in 2000 during college and then returned to Dutch-Way in as a Store Manager in 2004.  Jordan Snader grew up in East Earl, PA and started working part-time for Dutch-Way in 2007 through high school and college, returning to Dutch-Way in a management role in 2012.  Josiah Snader grew up in East Earl, PA and starting working part-time for Dutch-Way in 2015 through high school, continuing his full-time career at Dutch-Way in a management role in 2018.

Dutch-Way has been blessed with loyal employees, supportive customers, and steady growth. Key milestones include the opening of a larger Myerstown facility with a buffet-style family restaurant in 2004, a major remodel of the Gap location in 2010, the acquisition and conversion of True Value Hardware (later ACE) in 2012, and the opening of a fourth grocery store with a café in Ephrata in 2022.

Our past has been a blessing, and we look forward to the future with gratitude. To God be the glory!
